Join us on Sunday, May 31st, as we celebrate the 77th anniversary of Denmark’s National Catholic Shrine! A beautiful day of prayer, fellowship, and contemplation awaits.
🙏 Who is Our Lady of Åsebakken?
The Statue: A beautiful 1-meter wooden carving of the Virgin Mary and Christ Child, created in 1913 by F.W. Mengelberg.
The Wartime Vow: During WWII, Bishop Theodor Suhr vowed to establish a thanksgiving devotion if Denmark was spared from major destruction. The vow was fulfilled with the first pilgrimage in 1949.
The Monastery: The shrine is located at Our Lady's Monastery (Vor Frue Kloster) in Høsterkøb, home to Benedictine nuns, serving as a year-round spiritual sanctuary.
📌 Program for the Day:
09:15 – Woods Walk (Starts at Rudersdalsvej 41, Holte. A scenic 1.5-hour hike through Rude Skov).
10:30 – Confession at the monastery (available in multiple languages).
11:30 – Solemn Mass on the pilgrimage grounds.
13:00 – Lunch Break (Fellowship, Catholic booths, and Vietnamese food available for purchase).
14:00 – Floral Offering (Ave Maria devotion organized by the Filipino community).
15:00 – Marian Devotion (Closing prayer, ending at 15:45).
🚌 Practical Info & Transport:
Joint Bus: Departs from Sakramentskirken at 8:15 AM. ⚠️ PLEASE NOTE: This bus is completely SOLD OUT! Returns from Åsebakken at 4:00 PM.
Luggage: Transport from Holte Station available between 08:30–09:00 AM.
Parking: On-site parking available. Strictly no parking at the former Magleås site!
