Sant'Egidio in the Sacrament Church - join us!
Sant'Egidio is an international Christian community founded in Rome in 1968. The organization works for peace, social justice and care for poor and vulnerable people. With thousands of volunteers worldwide, Sant'Egidio is particularly known for its work among the homeless, refugees and lonely, as well as for its efforts in international peace negotiations.
Twice a month (2nd and 4th Monday of each month) at 6:00 PM, a group of young adults meet in the kitchen under the Sacrament Church. We make sandwiches and prepare dinner for local homeless people – and afterwards we go around in small groups and distribute the food. It's a fantastic opportunity to make a tangible difference and meet new people.
If you would like to join, just show up, or get in touch via +45 36 96 74 70 or Santegidio.kobenhavn@gmail.com
Christian meditation
"The wonderful beauty of prayer is that the opening of our heart is as natural as an opening of a flower. To let a flower open and bloom, it is only necessary to let it be; so if we simply are, if we become and remain still and silent, our heart cannot but be open; the Spirit cannot but pour through into our whole being. It is for this that we have been created."
- John Main Osb (1926-1982)
John Main was a Benedictine monk who made Christian meditation simple and accessible to everyone. His practice is based on silence and the repetition of a prayer word – traditionally “Maranatha” – without images or thoughts, just mindful presence with God. One sits quietly, for 20–30 minutes, and calmly returns to the prayer word when the mind wanders. His teaching has inspired a global network (including the World Community for Christian Meditation) and is used in parishes, schools and monasteries around the world.
In the Sacrament Church we meet every Monday at 5:00 PM. Before the meditation starts, a short introduction is given. The doors open at 4:45 PM and close at 5:00 PM, so there is peace and quiet for reflection during the 25 minutes of prayer.
